The Challenge
A large chemical plant needed three identical sulfur dioxide scrubbers, each with a 13’ diameter and 52’ height, constructed entirely of FRP. The scrubbers required custom designs to handle specific chemical processes not covered by standard design rules.
The Solution
Finite Composite Consulting delivered three identical, highly customized sulfur dioxide scrubber designs. Using 3D modeling and finite element analyses (FEAs), the designs were optimized to ensure maximum reliability and performance, even for elements not directly covered by existing standards.

The Story
This project, identified as Tri-Clor 3764, involved designing and fabricating scrubbers that weighed approximately 30,000 lbs each. The use of advanced modeling and analysis techniques ensured the scrubbers could handle unique attachments and special design considerations.
Key Insights
The ability to customize designs and perform thorough analyses using FEA provided the chemical plant with scrubbers that exceeded performance expectations. This project showcased Finite Composite Consulting’s capability to innovate and deliver complex engineering solutions.
